Employee Engagement is a workplace approach designed to ensure that employees are committed to their company’s goals and values, motivated to contribute to success and able at the same time to enhance their own sense of wellbeing.
In February 2012, the findings of a report “Unlocking Britain’s Potential” were published. Commissioned by the Government to understand what actions UK business might take to unlock the potential of its workforce, the report highlighted that the engagement and development of employees will be a key factor in supporting UK economic growth. The research identified that:
- 1 in 4 employers see engaging/motivating staff as a key business challenge
- Just 10% of employers rated themselves as “excellent” at bringing out the best in their people
Employers want employees who will do their best work or ‘go the extra mile’. Employees want jobs that are worthwhile and that inspire them. More and more organisations are looking for a win-win solution that meets their needs and those of their employees. What they increasingly say they are looking for is an engaged workforce. So, what is employee engagement? It can be seen as a combination of commitment to the organisation and its values and a willingness to help out colleagues. It goes beyond job satisfaction and is not simply motivation. Engagement is something the employee has to offer: it cannot be ‘required’ as part of the employment contract.

How do you measure engagement?
We have two survey tools available which provide insight on key engagement drivers.
1 A full bespoke survey providing in-depth analysis and valuable insight to ensure you are doing the right thing, with ongoing advice, support and guidance from us.
2 Short check in survey, a lighter touch providing headline information to point you in the right direction. Helpful when leading through change, ie, Covid-19 to check impact on engagement or to provide a high level or mid-point view.

Regional Ambassador for Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement is our specialist area, and, as such Michelle Mook has been appointed as the Regional Ambassador for ‘Engage for Success’ – Yorkshire and Humber Region. Engage for Success is a growing, voluntary movement across the UK promoting employee engagement as a better way to work that benefits individual employees, teams and whole organisations. Commissioned by the Government, Engage for Success is now a well-established movement that we are very proud to be a part of. Pro-Development has been actively involved with Engage for Success for several years and has represented the SME sector at their regional and national events ensuring our voice is heard. Employee Engagement workshops
Pro-Development run regular workshops to support you and your business where we will share tools and techniques to help you bring your people with you, grow your business, increase productivity, ultimately increasing your profit. It will also give you the opportunity to talk to other business owners, leaders and managers and share your successes, challenges and ideas together.
The workshop will run from 09.30 am – 12 noon and is followed with a light lunch and the opportunity to network with other businesses. The workshop is just £50 +vat per person.
