Benefits of Teamwork and understanding each other

We’ve been talking about team building this month and I’m sure we could all list a few benefits to the business of having an effective and high performing team, but in the current climate of increasing difficulty in attracting and retaining great staff, have we stopped to consider the powerful impact teamwork has on our culture and the engagement of our people?

When we go through times of uncertainty and change, when the pressure mounts, deadlines loom or work is complex and intense, it’s often the people we work with, our team, that can get us through that. It’s therefore not just important, but critical that we invest the time and effort it takes to build effective and high performing teams. Knowing and trusting each other, REALLY knowing and trusting each other – beyond the meeting room or the quick chats by the kettle – is what can make the difference between surviving and thriving.

Here at Pro-Development, we get to work with some amazing companies who know that having a strong team is the key to success and we see time and time again how this pays off – often in more ways than were expected.

When people spend time together with their colleagues outside of the day-to-day routine, whether that is on a training course or a team building day, powerful things happen! People get to know each other within a new dynamic, see different strengths and abilities in each other, learn what makes each other ‘tick’ and establish and develop stronger relationships. All of this leads to stronger communication and levels of trust which we know is the critical foundation from which all great teams rise. Teams that know each other are more likely to ask for help, offer support, encourage and motivate each other, be innovative and resolve conflict.

We are seeing an increase in requests for bespoke experiential team days which we absolutely love to create to meet differing client needs. With themes ranging from wellbeing and resilience to trust building and brave communication, we bring these themes to life to allow teams to step out of the day to day, shake up stagnant energy, expand their perspectives and allow creativity to thrive. We support teams to step out of the comfort zone and connect on a new level, learning about how they behave and communicate in different situations which builds trust, highlights strengths, and opens channels for honest communication.

The skills learnt on the day are the obvious take aways but underlying all of that, teams that know each other well have healthier habits at work, create happier environments in which people share problems and workloads to reduce stress, build support networks to increase wellbeing and ultimately improve morale and job satisfaction.

Another area where we see great impact through teams getting to know each other are our Action Learning Groups which allow a team to come out of their business to work on real-life issues in real time. Facilitated by us, they encourage collaboration, support, problem solving, innovation, creativity, and above all opportunities to listen to each other and get to know each other’s strengths and areas where support is needed. As well as ultimately increasing productivity, taking time out of the office as a team to work ‘on’ the business rather than ‘in’ the business in a solution focussed way, empowers people, increases motivation, encourages wider buy in and seriously raises the positive energy!

We are passionate about people development. Success is always about people. When people feel supported, valued, trusted and seen at work, they are more engaged. We know this. Great people and a great team are what carries people through the tough times and this is an attractive culture for new talent too. What’s not to like?!

Come and talk to us about your team needs – as Tracey said in her recent blog (link here) , we will ask tons of questions and really get an understanding of what you need (it might not always be what you think) but if a team day is the answer, we can promise to work with you to provide a bespoke experience that makes a BIG difference.

If you are an SME in York, North Yorkshire or the East Riding, you might also be eligible for a grant too of 40% towards the investment!
